USS Lake Champlain CVA-39 somewhere in the Mediterranean in the 1950s. She was redesignated
as a anti-submarine carrier CVS-39 in August of 1957. She never received an angled deck and was the last axial deck Essex class carrier in US service. Decommissioned to the reserve fleet in 1966 she was stricken for disposal 01 Dec 1969 and sold for scrap. She was dismantled at Kearny, NJ in 1972.
