USS Midway enjoys one of very few quiet evenings while on station off Formosa Sept. 21, 1958.
These were peaceful times to move around the ship. There might be a basketball game going on in hanger bay 1, movies in the different division spaces, (those were the days before we had TV on board) or sailors just quietly walking around their ship. Those quiet times are few and far between on a fighting ship and are cherished by all. |

One of the cakes baked Sept. 30, 1958 for the 1st anniversary
of Midway's re-commissioning. We had excellent cooks and the meals showed it. The hanger bay cookouts were great too. |
