was one of the smartest men I knew. The weather maps he drew were works of
art. He was a great leader and a good friend to his shipmates. He counseled us
and kept some of us from enacting the stupid whims that come into young sailors
heads from time to time. He passed away a few years ago but all of us who
worked for him in the Weather office will remember his guidance and willingness
to be there for us.
